Steamboat
Spring, Colorado is a classic, western river town. With the
Yampa River flowing through it's downtown corridor, it is
easy to see why fly fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking,
canoeing and river tubing play an important role in the lifestyle
and recreation choice for all vis itors
and locals alike.
Allow us
at Blue Sky West to help guide you, your family and guests
on one of our river adventures. Our permits for white water
rafting, fly fishing and river tubing on the Yampa, Colorado,
North Platte, Eagle, Bear and Elk River will get you in the
water and provide you a classic Colorado experience.
Rafting,
fly fishing and river tubing UPDATE - Spring '06
This
past winter was one of our snowiest in over a decade, which
translates into the potential for a great runoff and a fantastic
river season. The rivers we raft, fish and tube on here in
the Steamboat area are mostly free flowing where no dams impede
on the flow of the river. The rivers rise and fall depending
on how fast the snow melts off.
April, May, June and until mid-July are our highest waters,
translating into great rafting.
Our
trips on the North Platte, Eagle, Colorado and Yampa will
be in prime shape all during this time. For a quick 1/4 day
run, the Yampa
Town Run is your best shot for getting in and out
of the water. The North
Platte through North Gate Canyon (Class III) is
our classic full day trip and a must if you have a day to
spend with us. The Cross
Mountain Canyon (Class
IV) stretch of the Yampa is our wildest whitewater but may
be to high for us to offer trips until it recedes to a lower
flow, sometime in June. If you are visiting from early June
on and want a whitewater trip of a lifetime, ask about this
trip. Click
here to view our white water rafting trips.
Fly fishing
will be available but limited due to the high waters. During
April, May and early June, waters are the highest so we will
be offering trips on the Stagecoach Tailwaters, some high
alpine lakes and float trips on the Yampa when the water clear
up, post runoff. Click
here to view our guided fishing trips.
Tubing
won't start until the Yampa River in Steamboat recedes to
a lower flow sometime in July. Click
here to view our tubing information.
